Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team gives you the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community. You will lead introductory dance programs for preschool or children, deliver high-quality programs and events, and support participants and community members.
Responsibilities- Lead introductory dance programs for preschool or children.
- Ensure accurate attendance is taken at each class and submit all necessary paperwork to the Recreation Programmer and/or Cultural Programmer.
- Develop program plans that include equipment and supplies required and development plans.
- Manage class time and preparation time, arrive on time for each program, and maintain equipment and supplies in safe condition with proper setup of your room prior to commencement of each class.
- Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing and effective communication with participants and the Cultural Programmer.
- Complete required paperwork related to health and safety issues, accidents, incidents, or facility issues and/or elevate issues as appropriate.
- 1–2 years of experience working with children in a recreational setting.
- 2–4 years of experience in performing arts and/or dance.
- Excellent interpersonal, team effectiveness, communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Strong customer service and administrative skills.
- Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and at different sites as required.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
- Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required (Preschool-Youth classes).
- Due to the nature of the contacts in this position, a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Certificates are not required at the time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through an AWSIB‑approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR‑C certification at their own cost.
