Visual Arts Instructor - Specialized 1-3 (Fall/Winter/Spring )
Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team provides an opportunity to make a difference in the community. This seasonal role involves leading art programs for children, youth, and adults, maintaining program records, and ensuring a safe learning environment.
Responsibilities- Excellent interpersonal, team effectiveness, communication, organizational and leadership skills.
- Strong customer service and administrative skills.
- Availability and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and at different sites as required.
- Demonstrated time management skills with ability to prioritize demands, meet customer service standards and deadlines.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certification.
- Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (Preschool‑Youth classes).
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town.
- Specialized 1 – Starting at $25.00: Program design and delivery of general art programs for children and youth. 1–2 years of experience in arts program design, development and delivery in an arts‑based, recreational or school setting.
- Specialized 2 – Starting at $30.00: Program design and delivery of specialized medium arts programs for youth and adults (e.g., acrylic, watercolour). 3‑5 years of experience in arts program design, development and delivery in an arts‑based, recreational or school setting.
- Specialized 3 – Starting at $35.00: Program design and delivery of specialized medium arts programs for youth and adults; 5+ years program delivery in an arts‑based, university, college, or art studio or recreational setting; degree, diploma or equivalent in Fine Arts is an asset.
- Rate of pay determined by staff based on applicant experience and program requirements.
- Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town may offer opportunities for certification.
- Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew through a WSIB‑approved provider and obtain new Intermediate First Aid with CPR‑C at their own cost.
