Job Description
Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! - Lead art programs for children, youth & adults.
- Ensure accurate attendance is taken at each class, and all paperwork is completed and returned to the Recreation Programmer and/or Cultural Programmer after the final session for documentation.
- Develop program plans that include the equipment and supplies required and development plans.
- Manage their class time and preparation time, as well as arriving on time for each program, ensuring all supplies are available and that such equipment and supplies are maintained in a safe condition and ensuring a proper setup of their room prior to the commencement of each class.
- Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing, effective communication with participants and the Cultural Programmer.
- Fill out the required paperwork that deals with health and safety issues, accidents, incidents or facility issues and/or escalates issues as appropriate.

- Excellent interpersonal, team effectiveness, communication, organizational and leadership skills.
- Strong customer service and administrative skills.
- Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and at different sites as required.
- Demonstrated time‑management skills with the ability to prioritize demands, meet customer‑service standards, and deadlines.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certification required.
- Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required (Preschool‑Youth classes).
- Due to the nature of the contacts of this position, a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
- Program design and delivery of general art programs for children and youth.
- 1–2 years of experience in arts program design, development and delivery in an arts‑based, recreational or school setting.
- Program design and delivery of specialized medium arts programs for youth and adults (e.g., acrylic, watercolour, etc.).
- 3–5 years of experience in art program design, development and delivery in an arts‑based, recreational or school setting.
- Program design and delivery of specialized medium arts programs for youth and adults (e.g., acrylic, watercolour, etc.).
- 5+ years of program delivery in an arts‑based, university, college or art studio or recreational setting.
- Degree, diploma or equivalent in Fine Arts is an asset.
- Rate of pay will be determined by Town of Newmarket staff based on applicant experience and/or program requirements.
- Certifications are not required at the time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB‑approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR‑C certification at their own cost.
