- Lead specialized dance programs for children, youth, and adults.
- Ensure accurate attendance is taken at each class, complete all required paperwork, and submit it to the Recreation Programmer and/or Cultural Programmer after the final session.
- Develop program plans that include equipment and supplies required, manage class and preparation time, arrive on time, ensure supplies are available and equipment is maintained in safe condition, and properly set up the room before each class.
- Work cooperatively and maintain ongoing and effective communication with participants, the Cultural Programmer, and other team members.
- Fill out the required paperwork related to Health and Safety issues, accidents, incidents, or facility issues and appropriate escalations.

- Excellent interpersonal, team effectiveness, communication, organizational and leadership skills.
- Strong customer service and administrative skills.
- Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and at different sites as required.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
- Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development certification required (Preschool-Youth classes).
- Due to the nature of the contacts of this position, a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
- Program delivery of children or youth general dance classes.
- 4 - 7 years of experience in Dance and/or Performing Arts.
- 1 - 2 years of dance instructing experience, including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, etc. in a dance studio or recreation setting.
- Program delivery of specialized dance programs for youth and adult (break dancing).
- Experience in dance (break dancing) instructing and choreography development.
- Ongoing education and experience in performing arts/dance.
- Program delivery of specialized dance programs for adults (e.g. ballet, jazz, hip-hop, line dancing).
- Experience in course specific dance instruction and choreography development (e.g. ballet, jazz, hip-hop, line dancing).
- Ongoing education and experience in performing arts/dance.
- Program delivery of specialized dance programs for adults (ballroom and Latin dance).
- Experience in course specific dance instruction and choreography development (e.g. ballroom, Latin).
- Ongoing education and experience in performing arts/dance.
- Rate of pay will be determined by Town of Newmarket staff based on applicant experience and/or program requirements.
- Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at the candidate's own cost.
