Job DescriptionReporting through the Supervisor, Water/Wastewater and under the direction of the Lead Hand, the Water/Wastewater Field Assistant is responsible for providing support and performing infrastructure operations and maintenance for water distribution system, wastewater/storm water collection systems, sewage pump stations, and storm water retention facilities.
Job RequirementsEnrolled in a college engineering program or a relevant field. Operator In Training (OIT) certification in Water Distribution and/or Waste Water Collection, is preferred.
Familiarity with water and wastewater properties and legislation, infrastructure, and asset management of municipal infrastructures.
Proficient in the use of a computer and word processing and spreadsheet applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and GIS.
Ability to work independently with minimal direction or as part of a team, and to respond appropriately to any situation which may rise.
Ability to be certified to work in confined spaces including chambers and trenches, pump station wet wells and maintenance holes.
Ability to operate light/heavy equipment including pickup truck, and become familiar with operating other equipment related to water/waste water activities.
Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification preferred.
Class “G” driver’s license in good standing.
Good communication (written and oral) and customer service skills with ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public, staff, suppliers, contractors, other departments/levels of government, and utilities.
Knowledge of and/or experience with the MTO traffic control regulations and devices and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
