About the role:

The Registered Nurse (RN), Diagnostic Imaging (DI), provides safe, patient- and family-centred nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and image-guided procedures within the Diagnostic Imaging Department. The RN practices in accordance with the standards established by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), Southlake Health policies and procedures and all applicable legislation and professional standards.  Working collaboratively with radiologists, technologists and the interprofessional healthcare team, the RN is responsible for patient assessment, procedural preparation, intravenous access, medication administration, physiologic monitoring, moderate sedation recovery, patient education and post-procedure care.

The RN supports patients undergoing CT examinations, Cardiac CT imaging, image-guided biopsies, interventional radiology procedures and other diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.  The successful candidate is a highly motivated, organized and self-directed clinician who demonstrates excellent critical thinking, clinical judgment and communication skills while providing compassionate, evidence-informed care in a fast-paced procedural environment.
** What you’ll be doing:
*** Perform comprehensive nursing assessments before, during and following diagnostic and image-guided procedures.
* Assess patient suitability for CT examinations, Cardiac CT imaging and Interventional Radiology procedures.
* Review patient history, allergies, medications, laboratory values and procedural requirements.
* Prepare patients for Interventional Radiology procedures, image-guided biopsies CT and Cardiac CT examinations.
* Establish and maintain intravenous access for contrast administration.
* Administer prescribed medications in accordance with departmental protocols, including medications used for heart rate control and other Cardiac CT preparation.
* Monitor patient status throughout imaging procedures and respond appropriately to changes in condition.
* Provide patient education regarding procedure preparation, expectations, and post-procedure care.
* Participate in quality improvement, patient safety and departmental initiatives.
* Assist with orientation, mentorship and preceptorship of new staff and students.
* Assume a leadership role in coordinating patient flow and daily operations as assigned.
* Participate in continuing education and lifelong professional development.
* Demonstrate accountability for safe medication practices, infection prevention and control and radiation safety principles applicable to nursing practice in Diagnostic Imaging.
* Participate in emergency response and departmental preparedness activities.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager or designate.

* What you bring:

*** Current registration and member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse.
* Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
* Minimum three (3) years recent nursing experience in Diagnostic Imaging, Critical Care, PACU or Emergency setting.
* Demonstrated experience in venipuncture and peripheral IV insertion.
* Minimum three (3) years' experience monitoring and recovering patients receiving moderate (conscious) sedation.
* Experience in pre-, intra-, and post-procedural patient assessment and care.
* Completion of Critical Care Level I and II (CC1 and CC2).
* Demonstrated competency in ECG interpretation and cardiac monitoring.
* Excellent physical assessment and clinical decision-making skills.
* Knowledge of contrast media adverse reactions, including recognition, management and emergency response related to contrast allergy.
* Ability to respond effectively to patient emergencies, including Code Blue situations.
* Strong organizational, prioritization and time-management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication and patient education skills.
