Job SummaryThrough a team oriented professional approach, the residential support worker provides support to clients to increase their independence, dignity, and self-respect in a safe and secure environment. Working within a team‑based environment, you will support clients in achieving greater independence and well‑being within a supportive housing setting.
What You Will Do- Client Support & Skill Building
:
Build strong, respectful relationships with clients, providing coaching and hands‑on support in daily living activities such as personal care, medication management, meal preparation, budgeting, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. - Program & Household Operations
:
Facilitate house meetings and group activities, support client engagement, assist with daily household operations, and ensure a safe, clean, and well‑maintained living setting. - Community & Service Coordination
:
Help clients navigate healthcare and social service systems, maintain community partnerships, and support or accompany clients to appointments as needed, including participation in 24-hr crisis support. - Conflict Resolution & Recovery Support
:
Promote a psych‑social rehabilitation/recovery‑oriented approach, including harm reduction, conflict resolution, and problem‑solving to support positive shared living environments. - Administrative & Team Collaboration
:
Maintain accurate documentation, contribute to program planning and evaluation, support team communication, and assist with scheduling, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Relevant degree or diploma in human services or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience working with vulnerable populations.
- Knowledge of challenges faced by clients, including mental health, addictions, cognitive impairments, HIV/AIDS, etc.
- Strong understanding of harm reduction and psychosocial rehabilitation principles.
- Strong crisis intervention, problem‑solving, and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to build therapeutic relationships and collaborate with clients on goals and care plans.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and facilitating group activities or meetings.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and counselling skills to support clients in sensitive and complex situations.
- Effective organizational, time‑management, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in computer systems, documentation, and record‑keeping.
- Will be required to be on after‑hours on‑call, on a rotating schedule.
- Physically able to walk up and down stairs, assist clients with daily living activities, travel 10‑20% to different locations, lift objects up to 50 lbs.
Work will be required in resident rooms and may expose you to second‑hand smoke. After‑hours on‑call duty is required on a rotating schedule. Physical demands include walking up and down stairs, assisting clients, traveling 10‑20% to other locations, outdoor travel, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
