About the role

Rosemary Ward is a 33‑bed community assessment unit situated within Newmarket Hospital in Newmarket, about fourteen miles from West Suffolk Hospital. The unit is part of West Suffolk Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and is nurse‑led with a multidisciplinary team.

We are looking to recruit full‑time and part‑time registered nurses, with a particular focus on professionals willing to work both day and night shifts. The ward delivers compassionate, holistic care in a non‑acute setting, aiming to re‑enable patients and facilitate successful discharge.

Main duties of the job

As a registered nurse on Rosemary Ward you will be part of the nursing team, taking responsibility for the care of a group of patients, and you will work with the multidisciplinary team, patients and their families to plan effective and appropriate discharges.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Use problem‑solving skills in clinical decision making.
  • Demonstrate good organisational and communication skills, integrating into a highly supportive multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Take part in daily handover, planning and execution of care plans.
  • Assist in the induction, teaching and supervision of staff, learners and junior qualified staff.
  • Support patients’ families and address their concerns.
  • Contribute to service and practice development initiatives within the unit.
Job responsibilities

Assess nursing care to be delivered; plan, prioritise and supervise care within an allocated time frame.

Delegate activities to team members appropriately.

Organise and deploy staff according to workload, ensuring appropriate cover.

Supervise the delivery of care to maintain agreed standards.

Identify problems and risks, decide on appropriate actions via a structured approach and report promptly.

Work collaboratively with the inter‑professional team and coordinate care as experience grows.

Ensure all emergencies, incidents, complaints and grievances are responded to and reported in accordance with Trust policies.

Conform to all policies and procedures, including major accident, resuscitation, fire, health and safety.

Contribute to the efficient use of resources, handling the safe use, checking, maintenance and storage of equipment.

Work with the patient flow team on patient flow decisions.

Review and evaluate nursing care effectiveness, deliver clear records and handover.

Monitor quality of care formally and manage own time.

Carry out patient assessment, identify nursing problems and needs in partnership with the patient.

Assess risks to patients and manage them within scope of nursing practice.

Plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of care, using a holistic and evidence‑based approach.

Ensure skilled care is given, all drugs and treatments administered as prescribed.

Ensure accurate clinical observations and interpret data relating to patient condition and progress.

Evaluate interventions, update care plans and goals as needs change.

Contribute to health promotion and raising health awareness with patients and relatives.

Maintain safe practice to minimise infection risk.

Plan discharge needs, ensuring appropriate inter‑professional team involvement.

Assess learning needs of patients and/or relatives.

Instruct and demonstrate procedures to patients and/or relatives when competent.

Evaluate the effectiveness of patient teaching and act as necessary.

Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and staff; support bereaved and distressed families.

Address patient concerns, manage informal complaints appropriately.

Teach, supervise, support and assess junior staff, learners and non‑registered skilled workers.

Participate in staff induction.

Lead teaching and assessment of learners, encouraging critical reflection.

Undertake preceptorship, supervise junior qualified staff.

Demonstrate verbal communication, listen effectively and modify communication to individual needs.

Demonstrate written communication, record accurate, succinct, clear and legible reports.

Exercise professional accountability; respect patient rights, privacy and uphold public trust.

Continually develop professionally: undertake PDP, evidence‑based practice, knowledge sharing.
