The Calibration Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing calibrations and functional testing of electrical, mechanical, and optical test instruments in compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 standards. In addition to calibration duties, this role includes diagnosing and calibrating electrical and optical test instruments such as power analyzers, data acquisition, oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, and optical time domain reflectometers.
The technician will ensure all equipment meets required accuracy and performance specifications while maintaining detailed documentation and supporting quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Calibration & Testing
- Perform precision calibration of test and measurement instruments including electrical power analyzers, data acquisition, oscilloscopes, optical (OSAs, OTDRs), pressure, and temperature equipment.
- Documentation & Quality Assurance
- Accurately record all calibration and repair activities, including before/after data, observations, and corrective actions.
- Maintain up-to-date records and calibration certificates in MET-TEAM or asset management systems.
- Adhere to ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 procedures and participate in audit preparation.
- Lab & Equipment Maintenance
- Ensure that lab standards and repair tools are in good working order and within calibration.
- Maintain a clean and organized lab environment suitable for both optical and electrical work.
- Internal Communications
- Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders regarding repair status, turn-around times, and technical findings.
- Support internal inquiries related to optical product performance, repair status, or calibration questions.
- Continuous Improvement
- Recommend improvements to calibration and repair workflows, procedures, or tools.
- Assist with development and refinement of SOPs, repair guides, and troubleshooting documents.
- Other calibration laboratory and logistics related tasks and duties as assigned.
- Associate degree or equivalent in Electronics, Photonics, Engineering Technology, or on the job training.
- 2+ years of experience in calibration and/or repair of electronic and optical test equipment.
- Familiarity with electrical and fiber optic components, test procedures, and safety practices.
- Proficient with PC-based tools (experience with calibration software, e.g., MET/TEAM, is preferred).
- High preference:
Working knowledge of calibration standards and uncertainty analysis (ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSL Z540.3). Any additional experience in repairing electrical and optical instruments would be a great plus. - Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to read schematics and technical manuals.
- Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform repetitive tasks with precision.
