Swim Instructor I – YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta

They are looking for a Swim Instructor to help positively impact lives and communities across the state.
Nature and ScopeThis position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swim classes.
Minimum Requirements- At least 16 years of age.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
- Intro to the Y’s Cause and Culture, Living our Cause & I Hear you. Service with Care e‑learning within first 30 days.
- Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
- Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, refer program participants and families to other programs.
- Maintain records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures; completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Organize and put away needed class equipment; report damaged equipment.
- Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
- Other YMCA duties as assigned.
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment background check including criminal record check, drug screening and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
- Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
