Swim Instructor I – YMCA of Metropolitan Atlanta

As a thought‑leader and best‑in‑class provider in education, wellness, youth development, and community‑building, the YMCA of Metro Atlanta is one of the oldest and most essential non‑profits serving the Atlanta area. They are looking for a Swim Instructor to help positively impact lives and communities across the state.

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swim classes.

• At least 16 years of age.
• Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
• YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications required.
• Intro to the Y’s Cause and Culture, Living our Cause & I Hear you. Service with Care e‑learning within first 30 days.

• Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization; helps participants and families connect with each other and the YMCA; and encourages parent or caregiver involvement.
• Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and, as appropriate, refer program participants and families to other programs.
• Maintain records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
• Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures; completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
• Organize and put away needed class equipment; report damaged equipment.
• Train and supervise class aides as assigned.
• Other YMCA duties as assigned.

• Ability to pass a pre‑employment background check including criminal record check, drug screening and motor vehicle record (MVR) according to company policy.
• Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship.
