Purpose of Position
The Department of English at Christopher Newport University invites applications for the position of Lecturer in English, effective August 2026. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a nominal teaching load of 4-4. The appointment is a fixed-term contract of one year, renewable at the University’s discretion. After three consecutive annual appointments, candidates may apply for a three-year fixed-term contract, followed by potential renewable longer-term appointment.
Outstanding performance may lead to advancement to Senior Lecturer and eventually Master Lecturer.

Responsibilities- Teach freshman and sophomore writing seminars designed to support student success within and beyond the university.
- Prepare students for professional and applied contexts such as medical advocacy, digital humanities, publishing and editing, linguistics, or childhood studies.
- Terminal MA or Doctoral degree in English or a related field, or significant teaching experience in composition studies.
- Ability to teach writing courses preparing students for professional contexts.
- Background in medical advocacy, digital humanities, publishing and editing, linguistics, or childhood studies is highly preferred.
