Lecturer in Theater (Scene Design)
Effective August 2026. Full‑time, non‑tenure‑track appointment with nominal teaching load of 4‑4 and eligibility for releases for design/production assignments. The candidate will teach studio classes in scene design, drawing & drafting, intro to theater, and other areas of specialization for majors and non‑majors. The role includes integrating 3D‑visualization, 3D‑printing, and proficiency with Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD. Production responsibilities include serving as Scenic Designer for four shows in the mainstage season and supervising student teams in properties and scenic painting.
All CNU Theater faculty participate in departmental advising, recruiting, and program development. The candidate is expected to commit to undergraduate teaching within the liberal arts environment and to teach in the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum.
- Terminal degree in Theatre, Scenic Design, Theatre Engineering, or a closely related field required for appointment at the rank of Lecturer; individuals without an MFA or Ph.D. at the time of appointment but holding a master’s degree and/or possessing extensive design experience may be considered for appointment at the rank of Instructor.
- Proficiency with 3D‑visualization, 3D‑printing, Vectorworks or AutoCAD.
- Experience in scenic design for theatrical productions.
- Strong teaching philosophy with evidence of teaching effectiveness.
- Teaching undergraduate studio and intro courses as described above.
- Participation in departmental advising, recruiting, and program development.
- Teaching components of the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum.
- Advocating an inclusive learning environment.
