Adjunct Faculty Member – College of Social Sciences / Leadership Studies / American Studies Purpose of Position
Adjunct Faculty Members in the Department of Leadership and American Studies at Christopher Newport University (CNU) will teach individual courses as needed in Leadership Studies and American Studies. Courses covered include:
- Self‑discovery and group dynamics
- Leadership theory and perspectives
- Values and ethics in leadership
- Leading adaptive change
- Leadership analysis of historical figures and situations
- Leadership in complex contexts (systems and cultures)
- Special topics in the candidate’s area of expertise.
Teach the courses outlined above, preparing lessons, grading, and contributing to any needed curriculum development. Provide a supportive learning environment and be available for student inquiries.
Qualifications- Earned graduate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevant discipline.
- At least 18 completed semester hours of related graduate course work.
- Official transcripts required at the time of hire.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
- Candidate must complete a CNU‑sponsored background check upon hire.
The Department of Leadership and American Studies consists of 16 faculty members and offers a second major and a minor in Leadership Studies, and a major and minor in American Studies. The Leadership Studies minor received the Outstanding Leadership Program Award in 2019 from the Association of Leadership Educators.
