ENGINEER ELECTROMECHANICAL 5 – Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of HII
We are seeking an experienced engineer to join our Carrier Machinery System department. The successful candidate will apply electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems, including design, analysis, construction and documentation.
Responsibilities- Apply electrical, electronic and mechanical principles to components and systems; conduct assembly, analysis, documentation of results; construct developmental assemblies, sub‑assemblies, components; perform quality testing.
- Design, test, modify, fabricate and assemble prototype electromechanical systems.
- Act as the technical expert for electromechanical system design and analysis within the E24 Carrier Machinery System department.
- Train and mentor all levels of Engineers and Designers within E24 Carrier Machinery System department.
- Interface with high‑level customers at all stages of the value stream.
- Work independently as a self‑starter and excellent communicator and technical leader.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program and 14 years of relevant exempt experience; or Master’s degree and 12 years of relevant professional experience; or Ph.D. and 9 years of experience.
- Strong knowledge of electromechanical machinery systems used in naval applications.
- Excellent coaching, mentoring and technical leadership skills.
- Extensive experience in the design, analysis and troubleshooting of software‑controlled, electromechanical machinery systems for naval applications.
- Experience with software for finite element analysis, shock and survivability.
- Detailed understanding of shipboard machinery system requirements, particularly FORD class systems.
- Experience with FORD class machinery systems and analysis methodologies.
