The Role

The position will support plant maintenance and building construction. Responsibilities may include drafting blueprints, supervising construction projects, and ensuring compliance with legal and environmental regulations. Other responsibilities of planning, designing, and overseeing the construction and maintenance of various structures and infrastructure, including roads and sewage systems, will be performed. The role shall coordinate with consultants, contractors, and local enforcement agencies to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of civil engineering principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work with a team or professionals from different disciplines.

Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non‑metallic or composite structural materials for product design or operation, including structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronic, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyze damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis.

Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, Pro Engineer and a variety of software applications.

• Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
• Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
• Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
