Job Summary

The SSN(X) Platform Mechanical team seeks a highly skilled system engineer to shape critical functions for the Navy’s next‑generation fast attack submarine.

Job Responsibilities
  • Support system integration across multiple systems and disciplines.
  • Coordinate with the digital engineering team for model‑based engineering of mechanical systems.
  • Develop processes, tools, and other products necessary for program execution.
  • Re‑envision ship specifications.
  • Coordinate with Navy counterparts and conduct periodic briefs.
  • Oversee work of supporting team members and review technical products.
  • Travel periodically to naval bases/facilities, vendors, conferences, or other NNS facilities.
The Incumbent Should Possess
  • Strong technical background with comprehensive knowledge of ship systems and components across the platform.
  • Strong team collaborator and coordinator to integrate multiple teams with diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to support development and presentation of technical reports and briefs.
Must Have Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an ABET‑accredited program and 9 years relevant exempt experience.
  • Master’s Degree and 7 years relevant professional experience.
  • Ph.D. and 4 years of experience.
Nice to Have
  • Knowledge of submarine systems and their interfaces across structural, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in traditional and computer‑based methods for design and analysis of components.
  • Ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
  • Openness to continuous learning and development in a dynamic environment.
  • Operational experience on commissioned or under‑construction Navy vessels.
