Responsible Charge Engineer Job Description
We are seeking a Responsible Charge Engineer to join our Construction Services team in Newport News. This role involves overseeing major transportation projects during the construction phase, ensuring compliance, safety, and quality. The ideal candidate will hold a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Virginia and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in project execution.
Responsibilities- Provide direct and personal supervision of engineering activities during construction.
- Ensure projects are constructed in strict accordance with contract documents and specifications.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation to demonstrate compliance with project requirements, federal and state regulations, and safety and environmental standards.
- Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including VDOT staff, local government agencies, consultants, and the public.
- Prepare project correspondence and progress reports for client approval and support project meetings.
- Facilitate timely and articulate communication between necessary parties to further the project and meet client goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer’s license, preferably in Virginia, or the commitment to obtain a Virginia PE within 6 months of employment.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in transportation construction projects, preferably in Virginia.
- Familiarity with VDOT and regional design standards, practices, and policies.
Skills & Qualifications
- Excellent oral, written, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications, such as Microsoft Office suite and construction management software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $145000.00/yr.
Full-time employees are eligible for benefits coverage on the first day of the month following their start date.
