Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
This position supports the Nuclear Propulsion Overhaul Engineering department E81 for Aircraft Carrier and Submarine overhauls. This position develops engineering solutions, written technical direction, and provides waterfront support for the overhaul and upgrade of Reactor Plant mechanical systems. A successful candidate will possess analytical and problem solving skills to resolve technical issues which arise during nuclear system and component overhaul. The individual shall have the communication and relational skills to interface and discuss technical issues with engineering and non-technical personnel.
In addition, the individual will be willing to provide hands-on support on the ship. We are looking for engaged personnel looking to make a difference and uphold the highest level of technical standards required for work in the Navy Nuclear Propulsion Program. E81 provides in-house training to improve personnel development and performance by strengthening personal knowledge. Qualified candidates will be trained on Radiological and Personnel Safety and how to engineer them into all final products used in the performance of Nuclear Work.
Must HaveBachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
