Estimates labor and material costs of manufacturing and engineering based on request for proposal (RFP) data submitted by prospective customers. Analyzes specifications, including sketches, blueprints, bills of material, or sample layouts, and calculates production costs using labor and material pricing schedules and historical data. Collects cost data from functional representatives, subcontractors, and vendors. Computes cost estimates of raw materials or subcontracted work and labor.
Prepares and maintains historical cost data. Creates cost models for cost estimating elements. Prepares cost reports and presents findings to management, contract personnel, proposal coordinators, customer representatives, price auditors, vendors, and subcontractors.
The ideal candidate should be a self-starter, team-oriented, resourceful, independent thinker, solutions-focused, adaptable, and flexible individual. Strong leadership and communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary due to the collaborative nature of this position with the other functional areas of NNS, as well as external customers. Additionally, ship check's which include climbing vertical/horizontal ladders and being in confined spaces on Nuclear Powered Submarines along with occasional travel are required in order to perform Submarine Fleet Support estimating tasks.
MustHave
Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master’s Degree and 1 years of relevant professional experience
One of the following may be used as equivalent to Bachelor's Degree to meet minimum qualifications:
- NNS Apprentice School graduate
- Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate
- Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience
- Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience
- High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience
- High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience
