Designs major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Develops basic data and makes preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes necessary to present design proposal. Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, replace ability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specification requirements and cost. Coordinates with other organizations affected by design development.

Makes layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures. Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to responsible engineers or designers.

This requisition is for a design manager position in the Propulsion & Reactor Engineering Planning Yard responsible for the design, maintenance, overhaul and modernization of Nimitz Class and Ford Class propulsion plants. The manager will lead a group of designers responsible for the design and maintenance of Hull Outfitting (HOF) commodities supporting the operational readiness of the aircraft carrier fleet and new construction ship delivery.

The primary function is development and delivery of 2D Drawings and Model Files in support of aircraft carrier new construction and Class wide maintenance and modernization efforts (Ship Alts). Commodities associated with these products may include stowage, furniture, doors, openings, non-structural bulkheads, cathodic protection, insulation, deck coverings, foundations, material, and other miscellaneous HOF deliverables. This position will establish and maintain good working relationships with Fleet, Public Shipyards, Supply Chain, NAVSEA, NNL, engineer/designer leads across departments, and NNS Waterfront Construction Engineering/Trades via email, phone, and in person meetings.

The team utilizes NX, Team Center, TCViz, SAP, i2, Auto Cad, Access Databases, and Microsoft Office.

Design Apprentice certification or Associate's degree in Design with 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience;
