Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists, Systems Engineer, Aerospace / Aviation / Avionics
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and integration of structural and mechanical systems associated with aircraft modifications, repairs, and certification programs.
This role develops installation concepts, structural reinforcements, equipment mounts, and mechanical system integrations required to support new aircraft capabilities while maintaining airworthiness and regulatory compliance. The Mechanical Engineer ensures that designs are structurally sound, manufacturable, maintainable, and compatible with the aircraft’s existing configuration.
Mechanical Engineers work closely with Electrical Engineers, Designers, Certification Engineers, Production personnel, and external stakeholders to develop engineering solutions that meet technical, regulatory, and operational requirements. Mechanical Engineers will also support and fulfill the role of Mechanical Designer/Modelers as needed.
What You Will Be Doing- Design, analyze, and document aircraft structures, mechanical systems, equipment installations, and aircraft modifications supporting repair, alteration, and certification programs.
- Develop engineering solutions that satisfy customer requirements, regulatory requirements, airworthiness standards, and program objectives.
- Perform engineering analyses including structural, thermal, vibration, fatigue, and other evaluations necessary to support design decisions and certification activities.
- Develop and review engineering drawings, technical reports, compliance documentation, test plans, and supporting engineering data.
- Coordinate with Electrical Engineering, Certification, Stress Analysis, Production, Quality, and external vendors to ensure successful system integration and program execution.
- Support development of certification artifacts, compliance substantiation, and engineering reports required for FAA, DER, ODA, military, or customer approval.
- Evaluate manufacturability, maintainability, serviceability, and installation considerations throughout the design process.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, installation, troubleshooting, testing, and aircraft modification activities.
- Participate in engineering design reviews and provide technical recommendations regarding safety, performance, reliability, maintainability, and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain engineering data under configuration control and ensure work products comply with company standards, procedures, and drawing practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives, development of engineering standards, design practices, and lessons-learned activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
- Experience designing, analyzing, integrating, or supporting aircraft structures, mechanical systems, equipment installations, or aircraft modifications.
- Working knowledge of engineering principles related to structural design, materials, mechanics, manufacturing processes, and mechanical system integration.
- Familiarity with FAA regulations, aircraft certification processes, Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) projects, or FAA Form 337 major alteration processes.
- Experience creating, reviewing, or interpreting engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Proficiency with Solid Works or similar 3D CAD software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with Engineering, Certification, Production, Quality, Program Management, vendors, and…
