Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group is actively seeking an Ophthalmic Technician to work out of our ophthalmic office in Newport News. This is a full‑time position (Monday through Friday).

Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for prepping patients for eye examinations.

• Screen patients (e.g., collect medical history, update medications and allergies, check vision, and dilate pupils)
• Determine if further auxiliary testing is needed
• Schedule surgery for patients and prepare necessary paperwork
• Maintain a supplies inventory to keep the office fully stocked
• Responsible for charge entry
• Other duties as assigned

• Knowledge of coding with modifiers
• Knowledge of hospital requirements for surgeries
• Knowledge of eye medications
• Skill in communicating clearly with diverse publics
• Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public
• Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations
• Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow protocols

• High school diploma/GED or equivalent
• Six to twelve months related experience or training

• Ability to stand and walk for long periods
• Ability to sit for extended periods
• Ability to climb or balance for limited periods
• Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift up to 30 lbs. occasionally
• Ability to grasp and hold up to 25 lbs.
• Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or over the phone
• Ability to speak clearly and understandably
