Substance Abuse Counselor, Community Health
The City of Hampton is looking for a detail-oriented professional to conduct substance abuse and alcohol screenings for clients under local probation within our Criminal Justice Agency
. This role is responsible for administering screenings, accurately documenting results, and entering all required information into the case management system in compliance with program and confidentiality standards.

This position generally works 25 hours per week, working daily Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Minimum Requirements- High school diploma or successful completion of GED
- Basic knowledge of correctional services, the criminal justice process, and the local judicial system.
- Must possess or obtain VCIN certification within ninety (90) days of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton’s criteria.
- This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City’s current substance abuse policy.
- Must successfully pass a background check prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
- May require evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
- Performs duties under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor who provides guidance and direction through periodic discussions and consultations.
- Frequent contact with courts, defense attorneys, and treatment facilities.
- Requires some evening hours.
- Must have the ability to work with offenders and be able to establish and maintain harmonious working relationship with others.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- The incumbent may be considered “essential personnel” during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
- This is a grant-funded position, which is subjected to annual renewal.
