The Role

HII is seeking an experienced Legal Operations Manager at our Corporate office in Newport News, VA! The successful candidate will be responsible for improving the operational effectiveness of the HII Law Department by streamlining departmental processes and procedures, and will play a pivotal role in the department's success toward monthly/quarterly budget objectives, annual goals/objectives and 3/5‑year strategic plans. The individual will develop, implement, and manage business solutions that facilitate the operations of the HII Law Department and achievement of its business and legal goals and objectives.

Specifically, the successful candidate will:

  • Assist the legal team in developing, implementing, and improving Law Department financial and administrative business processes and procedures for internal efficiencies, cost containment, and coordination between HII and external vendor/counsel operations.
  • Recommend and manage the implementation of technology solutions and systems applicable to the Law Department. Develop the Law Department strategic technology roadmap and serve as project manager for the implementation and integration of technology solutions, particularly as they apply to legal research, knowledge management, billing and vendor management. Serve as liaison with information technology department regarding requirements and technical support services.

    Manage the Law Department information technology assets.
  • Manage Law Department financial activities, including budgeting and forecasting, expenditure tracking, billing, etc. Provide analysis to identify and address the drivers of Law Department expenses and trends, and recommend measures for cost reduction/avoidance along with process and functional improvements. Provide regular reports and metrics, measuring performance against budget. Collect and communicate financial information within and outside the Law Department. Serve as liaison with the corporate finance and accounting departments.
  • Provide business operations oversight to the department's vendor and outside counsel relations, including vendor rates, billing, tracking, and reporting expenses, etc. Work with legal staff and company procurement personnel to assist in the selection of vendors, develop performance assessment tools, establish performance and billing guidelines, and identify and resolve vendor relationship issues, etc.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day department operations issues, including planning and coordination of certain personnel processes (training and development, onboarding, clearances, etc.), facilities and equipment requirements, record‑keeping/records retention, data collection, departmental presentations and events, time and attendance recording, etc.
  • General management duties, including supervision of operations personnel.
Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of applicable, progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience; OR

Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience

Nice to Have

Prior experience with a Federal government contractor, preferably DOD
