OverviewThe Protection Supervisor manages the daily operation of Riverside Health's (RH) Facility protection to ensure a safe and secure healthcare environment and to maintain order throughout all assigned facilities and grounds. Assists Protection Manager in the daily operations of the department, including supervising staff, scheduling, staffing, hiring, etc. Ensures that protection services and assistance, as outlined by policies and procedures and management, are accomplished for visitors, patients and staff.
Provides leadership in the absence of the Protection Manager to ensure the protection of facility assets, patients, staff and visitors.
- Ensure that systematic and unsystematic tours of facility grounds and buildings are conducted to provide for the safety and security of all persons and property and to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, criminal activity, and illegal entry. Ensure the enforcement of the facility’s policy and procedures such as trespassing, smoking, parking regulations and visitation at the direction of management. Handle disorderly conduct within facility.
- Perform designated functions of the Manager/Director in the absence of the Manager/Director. Serve as a resource to the Protection Manager/Director in managing the daily functions of the Protection department. Provide daily operational leadership to staff and as directed by Management. Provide on-the-job training and facility familiarity training for new or reassigned officers to the shift to enhance retention and help reduce turnover of staff.
Provide necessary leadership to ensure resolution to emergency situations. - Monitor departmental productivity to meet needs of department. Complete and maintain staffing schedules to ensure sufficient staffing. Review and make recommendations to published schedules and activities evidenced by the following - meets weekend, off shift and holiday staffing requirements. Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of payroll sheets and work schedules to minimize payroll adjustments. Assist management with seeking replacements for time changes of any type.
- Maintain and ensure complete and accurate incident records in rCare. Review and ensure that incident reports are written of criminal activities, unsafe conditions or unusual circumstances, including safety and fire hazards. Record and release lost/found and patient valuables in accordance with policy or at the direction of management. Conduct in-depth initial investigation of all criminal incidents as assigned by management with documentation.
Manage the RRMC morgue process to ensure accuracy of all reports and information. Assist with the updates to all departmental manuals and ensure accuracy and timeliness of information in the blotter. - Assist the Director, Safety & Protection Management and the Protection Manager/Director with managing cost of RRMC Protection services within budget. Monitor the ordering and use of all supplies for RRMC Protection Console.
- Maintain a working knowledge of the TOTS (RRMC & RSMH only), Genetic access and video system, Worxhub, and Omnigo (RRMC only), Winpac, Northern Access, Johnson Fire Panel and System Four security equipment. Conduct Safety/Security inspections of identified units and departments. Monitor and troubleshoot fire, intrusion, duress, medical and security alarm systems to ensure timely follow-up to events. Ensure facility compliance with applicable regulations, rules, laws, and professional organizations standards by conducting and participating in daily, weekly or monthly inspections or drills at the direction of management, to include fire drill compliance and emergency preparedness participation.
Ensure daily testing of all RRMC duress alarms is conducted. Update and maintain key log for alarmed facilities. - Complete computer based training and other employee training modules necessary for position to remain up to date on safety issues, procedures and processes. Identify opportunities for service improvement and participate in process improvement and departmental in-services. Responsible for ensuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals, NIAHO and in accordance with RHS policies and procedures. Demonstrate the ability to keep work area neat, clean and in compliance with RHS, DNV and State safety standards.
- Maintain logs, input work orders into Worxhub, input calls for service into Omnigo, SOPs and current Communication manual, fire extinguishers and equipment. Inspection of Protection vehicles and vehicle equipment to include scheduling of maintenance. Initiate performance improvement efforts and monitoring. Adhere to policy and procedure. Review goals, accomplishments, policies and procedures.
