The RoleAs a Sheet Metal Worker, you will first be qualified through the shipyard’s state‑of‑the‑art welding school. The Sheet Metal Department is a versatile team of craftsmen responsible for fabricating, assembling and installing a wide variety of components on aircraft carriers, submarines and other surface ships. You will work on ventilation systems, metal joiner bulkheads, framing, furniture, cabinetry, lockers, ladders, handrails, foundations, weapon spaces and wet spaces, following detailed technical work documents and procedural guidelines.
Tools& Training
- Hand tools and power tools including drills, rivet guns, grinders, miter saws, band saws, nibblers, plasma arc cutters, rollers, shears, press brakes and CNC fabricators.
- Formal and on‑the‑job training in basic sheet metal/tack welding and job‑specific requirements.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Full‑time, multiple shifts.
