Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for a Palliative Care RN for our offices located in Hampton, Newport News and Williamsburg.

PRN Palliative RN – Registered Nurse
Location:
Virginia (Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg)
Work Experience:
Minimum of 5 years nursing, Palliative Care preferred.
- Acts as a palliative care consultant to an interdisciplinary team for complex pain and symptom management issues.
- Works in collaboration with clinical social work, advanced practice providers, patient navigators, and nursing staff.
- Educates and counsels patients and families about the disease process and end‑of‑life issues.
- Evaluates and records patient and family response within practice protocol.
- Serves as liaison to physicians and the community, maintaining good communication and collaborative relationships with referring physicians and other medical staff to ensure patients receive necessary care.
- Manages and mentors site staff to ensure adequate coverage and quality care; leads team meetings that address, discuss, and train on palliative care techniques.
- Demonstrates adaptability while handling day‑to‑day work challenges and adjusting to multiple demands, shifting priorities, ambiguity, and rapid change.
- Develops patient schedule to meet demands of traveling rotation between Western Tidewater offices.
- Demonstrates flexibility.
- BSN required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience; palliative care preferred.
- Certification in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing preferred.
- Two (2) years of management experience preferred.
- Appropriate RN state licensure required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Must be willing to travel to the various practice locations.
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, bending, stooping, twisting, assistance in moving patients, raising patients from examination tables or beds, pushing wheelchair‑bound patients, and standing and walking for extensive periods. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Work EnvironmentExposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
