Inside Higher Ed – Christopher Newport University Dining Services

Under the direction of the Food Production Manager and Head Cook, this position prepares or produces assigned menu items necessary for the service, according to recipes and established standards.

• Prepare assigned menu items using recipes and standards.
• Maintain sanitation protocols and cleanliness standards.
• Work in temperature extremes, congested work areas, and wet processes.
• Wear protective footwear and use kitchen equipment.
• Communicate written and verbal instructions to supervisors and subordinates.
• Complete multiple tasks concurrently and work in a fast pace.

• High school diploma or equivalent education/experience.
• Previous experience in food service and in a high volume restaurant environment.
• Serv Safe certified or equivalent food handler program.
• Knowledge of cooking methods, recipes, and kitchen equipment.
• Good organizational and supervisory skills.
• Ability to complete multiple tasks concurrently and work in temperature extremes.
• Experience reading and understanding recipes and ingredient lists.
• Experience writing menus and developing recipes.
• Knowledgeable in sanitation protocols and safety procedures.

Starting at $32,672, commensurate with education and experience.
