As a Master Tradesperson 4 (Senior‑level mechanic), you’ll directly support the Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) of nuclear‑powered aircraft carriers. Your expertise will support the RCOH Elevator Support Unit (ESU), focusing on mechanical systems critical to the refit and modernization of aircraft elevators. Your work directly impacts the U.S. Navy’s operational readiness and national defense for the next 25 years.
What You Will Do- Master understanding of production and processes. Responsible for interfacing with customers, managing subcontractors and providing work direction to others.
- Provide direction and lead others.
- Manage one or more multiple jobs.
- Complete comprehension of specialty trades functions and tools.
- Perform a variety of complicated and non‑routine tasks.
- Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
- Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.
- Perform quality inspections on finished product.
- Perform duties outside of specialty in order to complete installation or work assignment.
- High school diploma, trade school or equivalent, and 6 years of mechanical experience.
- Master knowledge and experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs of mechanical systems and their associated equipment.
- Proficient in reading mechanical drawings and schematics.
- Follow and enforce safety procedures to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
- Obtain and maintain a DoD confidential security clearance and maintain clearance level throughout employment.
- Obtain base access credentials within 60 days of start date and maintain credentials throughout employment.
- Provide hand tools per trade designation.
- U.S. citizen.
- Candidates who have graduated from or completed a vocational school, apprenticeship program or a skilled trades certificate program.
- Candidate with a current or active DoD clearance.
- OSHA 10 Maritime Certification.
- Knowledge of Navy Tag Out program, NSTM 300, and 3M manual.
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes, no less than 30 lb.
- Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces.
- Able to perform other duties as required, which may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
- May require wearing a respirator. Most work is performed aboard ships or in industrial conditions.
- Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
