Pipe Fitters are responsible for installing these complex systems together on the ship and in the shop: more than 23 miles of pipe are installed on a submarine, and more than 230 miles of pipe are installed on a carrier. As a pipe fitter, you will learn to read blueprints, fabricate, install, inspect, and test the piping systems onboard a ship.

In your first few weeks you will attend a Fundamentals of Piping Fitting class where you will receive important information needed to perform your job. Throughout your career you will receive additional training to enhance your knowledge of the job.

• Read blueprints and fabrication drawings
• Fabricate, install, inspect, and test piping systems
• Attend and participate in required training programs
• Ongoing training to advance piping knowledge and skills

• Qualified candidates must have at least 1 year of previous Marine Pipe Fitter experience
• Must be able to work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces
• Must be able to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs and must take and pass a respirator fit test
• Must be able to work indoors/outdoors year round in all weather conditions
• Must be able to work assigned shift as production needs
• Must be able to pass Physical Agility Test

High school graduate or equivalent preferred
