Description:
The Drone Repair & Maintenance Instructor is responsible for delivering classroom and hands‑on instruction focused on the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS). This role supports student skill development through practical exercises, performance evaluation, and adherence to established safety and industry standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Deliver formal instruction on the function and operation of core drone components, including but not limited to:
- Airframe and structural components
- Motors and propellers
- Battery systems and power management
- Electronic Speed Controllers (ESCs)
- Flight controllers and navigation systems
- Sensors and payloads
- Software, firmware, and communication systems
Instruct students on inspection procedures, checklists, routine maintenance, and proper recordkeeping for drones and batteries.
Supervise and guide students during hands‑on troubleshooting and repair activities.
Evaluate student performance during diagnostic and repair tasks and provide constructive, actionable feedback.
Develop, maintain, or follow approved training materials, lesson plans, and assessments.
Ensure all instructional activities comply with safety protocols, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Current knowledge of industry best practices for repairing and maintaining small unmanned aerial systems, including DJI and Skydio X2/X10 platforms.
Ability to diagnose and resolve common drone issues, including but not limited to:
- Flight instability or drift
- Motors not spinning or failing
- Broken arms or frame damage
- Camera or gimbal malfunctions
- Loose wiring or electronic faults
- Error messages and system alerts
- Sensor and calibration issues (compass, IMU, gyroscope, controllers)
- Firmware, software, and communication system issues
Strong understanding of safety procedures related to drone operations, batteries, and electronics.
Demonstrated problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to learners with varying levels of experience.
Prior teaching, instructional, or technical training experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience repairing or maintaining drones from multiple manufacturers.
Ability to adapt instruction to different drone platforms and evolving technologies.
This role is integral to preparing students for careers in drone technology repair and maintenance while fostering a safe and effective learning environment.
Pay: $45.00 - $55.00 per hour.
