Teaching Personnel is recruiting Psychology graduates to work within supportive secondary schools across Newport, helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

This is the perfect opportunity to gain hands‑on experience working alongside teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and safeguarding professionals while supporting students with a range of additional learning and emotional needs.

The Role

As a Psychology Graduate Teaching Assistant
, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students across Key Stages 3 & 4
  • Support pupils with ALN, Autism (ASC), ADHD, SEMH, anxiety, and other learning needs
  • Build positive relationships that improve confidence, attendance, and engagement
  • Help implement behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
  • Support students both inside and outside the classroom
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to monitor progress
  • Encourage students to become independent learners

What We're Looking For

We'd love to hear from you if you are:

  • A Psychology graduate (or studying physchology)
  • Passionate about supporting young people's wellbeing and education
  • Calm, patient and empathetic
  • Confident communicating with students and staff
  • Resilient and able to build positive relationships
  • Eager to gain practical school-based experience

Previous experience working with young people is desirable but not essential. This may include:

  • Youth work
  • Sports coaching
  • Care work
  • Summer camps
  • SEN support
Teaching Personnel will support you throughout the registration process.
  • Psychology degree (or currently studying)
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Education Workforce Council (EWC) Registration (or willingness to register)
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Two professional references covering the previous 24 months
  • Right to work in the UK
