Teaching Personnel are delighted to be working with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school in Newport, Isle of Wight to recruit a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).

The Role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff to raise achievement and provide targeted support for students with additional learning needs.

You will lead small group interventions across key curriculum areas, including English, Maths and PE
, supporting students in overcoming barriers to learning and successfully reintegrating into mainstream lessons.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in promoting inclusion, engagement and academic progress while helping students develop the skills and confidence needed to thrive in a secondary school environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality small group intervention sessions in English, Maths and PE.
  • Support students with additional learning needs to access the curriculum effectively.
  • Assist with the reintegration of students into mainstream classroom environments.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and wider support staff to improve student outcomes.
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback on students' development and achievements.
  • Encourage independence, resilience and positive learning behaviours.
  • Foster an inclusive learning environment where all students can succeed.
  • Contribute to the wider pastoral and educational support offered to students.
About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • HLTA status or relevant experience in a similar educational support role.
  • Experience supporting students with additional learning needs.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • The confidence to lead intervention groups independently.
  • A patient, adaptable and compassionate approach.
  • A genuine commitment to inclusion and student success.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
