Are you from a sporting background and looking to use your skills to positively impact young people within education?

Teaching Personnel is recruiting for a Sports & Engagement Mentor to work within secondary schools across Newport. This role is ideal for individuals with experience in sports coaching, fitness, team leadership, or mentoring who are passionate about supporting students both academically and personally.

This opportunity offers a rewarding pathway into education while allowing you to use the transferable skills developed through sport, coaching, and leadership.

About the Role

As a Sports & Engagement Mentor, you will primarily work within a classroom-based environment supporting students who may require additional encouragement, guidance, or behavioural support throughout the school day.

You’ll help students remain engaged in lessons, develop positive relationships, and build confidence within school.

The role may involve:

  • Encouraging classroom engagement and positive behaviour
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for students
  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and confidence
  • Building strong relationships with pupils who may struggle within mainstream education
  • Assisting teaching staff in maintaining a supportive learning environment

Although this is mainly a classroom-based role, there may also be opportunities to support within more active lessons, intervention sessions, sports activities, or practical learning environments where your sporting background can be a huge advantage.
