As part of the Inyanga Marine Energy Group, the company is leading the engineering, manufacture and commercial deployment of Hydro Wing—a next-generation tidal stream energy technology designed to deliver predictable, low‑carbon electricity at commercial scale.

Hydro Wing is being developed for the 30 MW Morlais Project off Anglesey, one of Europe’s largest consented tidal energy developments and a flagship project helping establish tidal stream energy as a mainstream renewable technology.

Alongside Hydro Wing, Inyanga Maritime designs specialist offshore equipment and delivers engineering and marine operations supporting offshore wind, tidal energy and wider marine infrastructure throughout the UK and internationally.

As the business continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Chief Technical Officer to provide strategic technical leadership and drive the development of world‑leading marine renewable energy technologies.

Purpose of the Role

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Chief Technical Officer will lead the Company’s technology strategy, engineering development and innovation activities.

The CTO will provide technical leadership across the Hydro Wing programme, ensuring the successful progression of technology from concept development through detailed engineering, manufacture, certification, commercial deployment and operational optimisation.

The successful candidate will work closely with investors, customers, certification bodies, research organisations and project partners to establish Hydro Wing as one of the world’s leading commercial tidal energy technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy:

  • Develop and implement the Company’s long‑term technology strategy.
  • Define future product roadmaps for Hydro Wing and associated marine technologies.
  • Identify emerging technologies and opportunities for innovation.
  • Ensure technology development aligns with commercial objectives.

Engineering Leadership:

  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams across mechanical, structural, electrical and marine engineering disciplines.
  • Establish engineering standards and design processes.
  • Oversee technical governance throughout all projects.
  • Mentor senior engineers and technical specialists.

Hydro Wing Programme:

  • Direct the technical development of the Hydro Wing tidal energy system.
  • Lead engineering activities supporting the Morlais 30 MW commercial deployment.
  • Oversee design verification, testing and certification.
  • Drive continuous product improvement through operational experience.

Innovation & Intellectual Property:

  • Develop the Company’s intellectual property strategy.
  • Identify patent opportunities.
  • Build relationships with universities and research organisations.
  • Secure collaborative R&D funding opportunities.

Commercial Support:

  • Support business development and strategic partnerships.
  • Provide technical leadership during investor due diligence.
  • Present technology to customers, investors and government stakeholders.
  • Represent the Company at conferences and international industry events.

Governance:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards and certification requirements.
  • Manage technical risks.
  • Chair technical design reviews.
  • Support Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality objectives.
Experience and Skills

Essential:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or related engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent.
  • Minimum 15 years’ engineering experience.
  • Significant experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Proven track record delivering complex offshore engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of offshore renewable energy technologies.
  • Experience managing engineering budgets and technical programmes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience with in tidal energy.
  • Offshore wind experience.
  • Marine operations experience.
  • Knowledge of offshore certification (DNV, Lloyd’s Register, ABS).
