We are looking for an experienced environmental professional to join our Capital Delivery Enabling Services team. You'll bring knowledge and experience across a range of environmental disciplines, including environmental permitting, working with regulatory authorities and biodiversity enhancement initiatives. You'll be able to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within regulatory and project timescales.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing line management responsibilities, including performance management, training & development and coaching of direct reports in accordance with all HR policies, including people engagement.
  • Ensuring the business is able to meet its requirement for project delivery in line with the latest regulations, to an agreed timeline and within approved target cost which will enable delivery of the Welsh Water investment programme.
  • Assessing project needs, defining scope, identifying solutions, inputting into design activities, collating project target costs, procuring services, managing biodiversity project delivery and commissioning projects for a defined programme of work.
  • Effectively monitoring and tracking delivery and being able to take appropriate action in the event of programme slippage in relation to ecology, environment and biodiversity matters.
  • Ensuring implementation of Welsh Water contract, supply chain and commercial systems to ensure consistency.
  • Complying with Welsh Water Health and Safety requirements, ensuring all projects comply with the latest CDM Regulations and helping to identify good and best practice construction techniques, and bad practice where applicable under the 'near miss' reporting procedure.
  • Where appropriate, implementing sustainable and innovative project solutions, working towards efficiency targets and reduction in Welsh Water's carbon footprint.
  • Being accountable for supporting the delivery of special projects involving above-ground, below-ground or both asset types, within a defined area.
  • Ensuring investment needs are effectively scoped and optimal solutions are identified, inputting into design and managing procurement processes, whilst also supporting the management of the construction, delivery and commissioning of assets.
  • Working collaboratively with operational and design teams, Alliance partners, suppliers and Welsh Water to fully understand asset performance concerns.
  • Providing project management expertise for engineered solutions and support to operational colleagues and Alliance partners as and when needed.
  • Ensuring Welsh Water's interests are protected at all times and that risks to the business are minimised by ensuring project risks are identified, understood, valued and correctly allocated, and managing the early warning and risk reduction process.
  • Leading project peer reviews to ensure Welsh Water's interests are represented during solution selection and that any business risks are understood.
  • Assisting with the resolution of issues between third parties and Welsh Water.
  • Ensuring that all project handover documentation and procedures are complete before the issue of Final Certificates, managing the post-project appraisal process, and undertaking appropriate root cause analysis upon scheme completion to ensure a continuous improvement process is applied., Do you have a passion for leading successful projects?

    • Lead a team of project coordinators
    • Assess project needs, define scope
    • Manage project construction and deliver and commission projects
    • Comply with health and safety requirements to ensure all projects comply with CDM regulations
    • Fulfil the role of Project Manager as defined in NEC
    • Work collaboratively with internal customers, Alliance partners and suppliers
    • Liaise with cost managers on spend profile
    • Produce monthly reports on progress
    Experience
    • Professional qualification educated to Degree level, or equivalent relevant qualification and experience.
    • Extensive experience of managing ecology, environmental and biodiversity matters, acting as a technical expert as part of a large team or similar environment in the delivery of high-value capital solutions.
    • Experience and understanding of ecology, environmental and biodiversity processes and procedures, and Health and Safety legislation, including CDM Regulations.
