Assistant Buyer

Newport | Full UK Driving Licence Required

Are you organised, commercially minded and great with people?

We're looking for a proactive Assistant Buyer to join a busy Procurement team, playing a vital role in supporting sourcing activities, supplier management and contract administration.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in procurement, purchasing, contracts or supplier management who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and wants to develop their career within a supportive and forward-thinking organisation.

What you'll be doing

As Assistant Buyer, you'll work closely with Category Managers to support the delivery of procurement strategies and sourcing projects across the business. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting sourcing and tender activities through e-sourcing platforms
  • Managing supplier onboarding, compliance checks and approved vendor records
  • Assisting with contract implementation, extensions and price reviews
  • Maintaining procurement catalogues and supplier databases
  • Analyzing spend data and preparing procurement reports
  • Acting as a first point of contact for suppliers and internal stakeholders
  • Providing guidance on procurement processes and policy compliance
  • Supporting supplier performance reviews and contract management activities
  • Helping drive process improvements and procurement best practice
What we're looking for

We're keen to speak with candidates who have:

  • Experience with in procurement, purchasing, supplier management or contracts administration
  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail
  • The ability to build effective relationships with suppliers and stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Teams
  • Knowledge of SAP, procurement systems or e-sourcing platforms would be advantageous
  • GCSE Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent
  • A Full UK Driving Licence
