Precision Machinist CNC Milling / Grinding / Lapping Newport, South Wales | £30,000 £ 38,000 | Permanent | Full-time An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Precision Machinist to join a growing advanced manufacturing business in Newport. The successful candidate will have a background in precision CNC machining, grinding or lapping , ideally working with metals, carbide or other hard materials.

Technical ceramics experience is not required. Full specialist training will be provided by an experienced ceramics machining specialist. This is an opportunity to develop specialist expertise in precision machining and lapping of technical ceramics for the semiconductor industry.

Key Responsibilities Operate CNC milling machinery, including Hurco controls Manufacture tight-tolerance components from engineering drawings and process specifications Carry out precision grinding and lapping to achieve specified surface finish, flatness and parallelism Develop knowledge and practical capability in machining technical ceramics and other hard/brittle materials Select appropriate tooling, abrasives, fixtures and machining parameters Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and technical specifications Carry out in-process and final inspection Use micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges and surface-finish testing equipment Record machine setups, tooling parameters, machining data and inspection results using digital production systems Capture and document process knowledge and improvements Identify issues early, investigate root causes and implement practical solutions Maintain machinery, tooling and work areas Work safely and maintain high standards of quality and housekeeping Essential Experience Proven experience in precision CNC milling, grinding or lapping Experience machining metals, carbide or other hard materials Strong understanding of machining principles, feeds, speeds and material behaviour Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and technical specifications Competence with precision measurement and inspection techniques Experience maintaining accurate production/process documentation Proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently Willingness to undertake intensive training and learn new materials and processes Desirable Technical ceramics experience

Experience with alumina, aluminium nitride, zirconia, SiC or other brittle materials Carbide or glass machining Aerospace, semiconductor or medical manufacturing experience Apprenticeship or vocational qualification in machining/mechanical engineering Hurco experience ISO 9001 knowledge Basic CAM programming The Opportunity This is more than a conventional machining position. You'll become part of a growing manufacturing operation and have the opportunity to develop expertise in a specialist and technically demanding area of precision manufacturing .

An experienced specialist will provide structured, hands-on training in technical ceramic machining and lapping. You'll also have genuine responsibility for the machining process, with the opportunity to influence and improve how processes are documented and carried out. The ideal candidate will be someone who takes ownership, works accurately, is comfortable solving problems independently and takes pride in producing high-quality precision components.
