About the Role

Bluestones Medical is recruiting experienced Recovery Practitioners to support Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) across hospital and theatre settings throughout South East Wales.

As a Recovery Practitioner, you will play an important role within the multidisciplinary theatre team, providing safe and effective care to patients recovering from anaesthesia and surgery. You will monitor patients closely, identify changes in their condition and support their safe recovery and transfer to the appropriate clinical area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, effective and compassionate care to patients recovering from anaesthesia and surgery.

  • Receive and assess patients following surgical procedures and anaesthesia.

  • Monitor patients’ vital signs, airway, breathing, circulation, consciousness and pain levels.

  • Recognise and respond promptly to signs of deterioration or complications.

  • Provide appropriate post-operative care within your scope of practice.

  • Administer medications and treatments safely in accordance with professional and hospital policies.

  • Support airway management and oxygen therapy as required.

  • Monitor and manage post-operative pain, nausea and other common recovery needs.

  • Ensure patients are safely recovered and meet appropriate discharge or transfer criteria.

  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and the wider multidisciplinary team.

  • Work closely with anaesthetists, surgeons, nurses, ODPs and theatre staff.

  • Maintain patient dignity, privacy, safety and comfort at all times.

  • Follow infection prevention, safeguarding, health and safety and clinical governance procedures.

  • Respond appropriately to emergencies and patient deterioration.

Essential Requirements
  • Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) with valid NMC or HCPC registration, as applicable.

  • Recent UK experience within an operating theatre, anaesthetic or recovery environment.

  • Minimum of 6 months’ recent relevant UK experience.

  • Experience caring for patients following anaesthesia and surgery.

  • Good knowledge of patient monitoring, airway management and post-operative care.

  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to recognise and respond appropriately to patient deterioration and emergencies.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced theatre environment.

  • Right to work in the UK.

  • Satisfactory employment references.

  • Up-to-date mandatory training or willingness to complete.
