We have an exciting opportunity for Quality/Laboratory Technician to work for our global pharmaceutical client based in Newport. The role is a full-time temporary contract role initially 1 year with a possible extension working from 8am – 4pm and 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday. This position offers an hourly rate up to £17.08 per hour depending on experience, plus 25 days holiday pro rata.

Description:

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for supporting the efficient processing, handling, analysis, and storage of laboratory specimens while ensuring compliance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality standards and regulatory requirements. The role supports laboratory operations through specimen processing, data management, inventory control, equipment calibration, reagent preparation, quality control activities, and maintenance of accurate documentation within an ISO
17025 environment. The Laboratory Technician contributes to maintaining a safe, organised, and productive laboratory, works collaboratively with colleagues, and demonstrates a commitment to quality, continuous improvement, and professional development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Process, log, scan, and accurately track laboratory samples using laboratory information systems and databases. Support the preparation, handling, and analysis of biological specimens in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Perform sample processing activities, including cell lysis and tissue preparation techniques. Prepare reagents, consumables, and laboratory materials required for daily testing activities. Conduct routine quality control checks and assist with the calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Maintain accurate documentation and records to ensure full traceability and compliance with ISO
17025 and quality standards. Monitor sample and client data for accuracy and completeness, escalating any issues as required. Receive, catalogue, and manage laboratory supplies, reagents, and chemicals, ensuring appropriate stock levels are maintained. Coordinate customer inventory requirements and support shipments between laboratory locations. Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with laboratory procedures, regulatory requirements, and good laboratory practices. Maintain a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support the delivery of high-quality laboratory services. Work collaboratively within a team environment while managing responsibilities with minimal supervision. Participate in training and development activities to maintain and enhance technical skills. Undertake other duties appropriate to the role and business needs. Ability to safely handle and move sample deliveries and laboratory materials, including lifting items of up to 15kg.

Experience, Knowledge and

Qualifications:

Degree in Science or relevant field. Strong pipetting skills and experience. Experience and comfort level working with chemicals in a lab setting. Demonstrates effective communication skills to convey and receive information. Proficient in MS Office Suite and basic computer skills. Strong attention to detail. Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines. Exceptional organisational skills and attention to detail.
