Patient Access Coordinator, FT – Unity Health
The Patient Access Coordinator is the management level of the Patient Access Services (PAS) career path. The role performs all Patient Access Services functions and supervises the operations and staff of Patient Access Services areas.
Key Responsibilities- Prioritize and coordinate patient call flow in the Pre‑Encounter Unit.
- Ensure smooth operation of the date‑of‑service “Express Check‑in” functions.
- Assist in developing policies and procedures for patient information, way‑finding, office management, call distribution, patient pre‑registration, registration, financial screening and patient check‑in processes.
- Perform and supervise quality assurance and process improvement activities.
- Manage employee performance to meet or exceed quality and productivity standards.
- Perform performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with interdepartmental peers, clinical departments, community providers, and staff.

- High school diploma or equivalent; proven computer proficiency.
- Knowledge of hospital and access management processes.
- Leadership aligned with core values of the organization.
- Mature problem‑solving approach.
- Skills using mainframe and PC computers.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Detail orientation.
- Typing accuracy 25‑30 words per minute; successful completion of a clerical examination.
- Successful completion of internal examinations after training to demonstrate mastery of Patient Access Services computer applications.
- Prior experience in hospital admissions, business office and/or physician’s office preferred.
- After training, pass internal examinations on general Patient Access Services competencies.
This position is not classified as “safety sensitive.” The workplace prohibits the use of medical marijuana by associates in any position classified as “safety sensitive.”
Physical & Mental EffortPhysical:
Sitting 3‑4 hours; standing 3‑4 hours; walking 3‑4 hours; moderate lifting 20‑25 pounds (1‑10 times per day); moderate bending, squatting and kneeling; frequent fine motor movements with both hands; manual dexterity to use computer; good visual and hearing discrimination.
Mental:
Strong verbal and written communication; detail orientation; good deductive reasoning; empathy for patients; collaboration and team building; acceptance of authority and following instructions; ability to delegate.
8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, plus alternating weekends on call.
