Job Summary

A Gifted and Talented Teacher identifies and serves students with exceptional abilities by designing individualized learning plans, providing specialized curricula, and fostering critical thinking and creativity.

Performance Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include coordinating identification processes, collaborating with teachers and parents, modifying lessons, and managing a supportive learning environment to meet the unique academic and social‑emotional needs of gifted students.

General Duties And Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement processes for identifying gifted and talented students, reviewing student data, and administering tests.
  • Design and deliver specialized curricula and enrichment activities to challenge gifted learners. This includes adapting lessons, providing individualized and small‑group instruction, and incorporating strategies like curriculum modification and acceleration.
  • Develop and manage Gifted Student Service Plans (GSSPs), which outline differentiated services to meet the needs of each student.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, parents, administrators, counselors, and other relevant individuals to create a supportive environment for gifted students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Evaluate student progress, keep records, and provide progress reports to discuss performance.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the gifted program at assigned locations and implement changes as needed.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, develop reasonable classroom behavior rules and procedures, and maintain order in a fair and just manner.
  • Make provision for being available to students and parents for education‑related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Require the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing.
  • Require the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Require bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Require the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light weights.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Shall hold a bachelor’s degree or higher and the required KY certificate for the assigned position.
  • Endorsement for Certification in Gifted and Talented Education, preferred.
  • Shall demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students, peers, and adults.
  • Shall demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and faculty.

Days worked and salary

  • 186‑day contract.
  • Certified Salary Schedule.
