Position Title: Geology Instructor

Department/Unit: Academic Affairs

Classification: PT Faculty

Status (exempt/non-exempt): Exempt

Reports to: Dean of Academic Pathways & CTE

Percentage: Part time

Annual/Academic year: term to term*

  • Courses will be offered Face to Face/Online/Live streamed for the  Academic Year. Winter term begins January 5, 2026
  • Pay is dependent upon individual credentials and experience.

  • Course detail Winter Term Offering

    GS 106 Physical Science (Geology) (4 credits/66 clock hours):

    Covers minerals, rocks, volcanism, earthquakes, plate tectonics, erosion and deposition by wind, glaciers and streams, weathering, fossils and geologic history. Includes weekly lab.

    Other Possible Offerings:

    G184 Global Climate Change (4 credits/66 clock hours):

    Covers characteristics of Earth's climate system. Includes the atmosphere, ocean, biosphere, and solid Earth as well as past, present, and future climate change and future mitigation and adaptation efforts. Includes a weekly lab.

    G201 Earth Materials and Tectonics (4 credits/66 clock hours):

    Introduces physical geology which deals with minerals, rocks, internal structure of the earth, and plate tectonics. Includes a weekly lab.

    G202 Earth Surface Processes (4 credits/66 clock hours):

    Introduces physical geology which deals with mass wasting, streams, glaciers, deserts, beaches, groundwater, and use of topographic maps. Includes a weekly lab.

    The above are courses to be potentially taught on an as needed basis. Other courses based on enrollment needs may also be offered if the successful candidate is qualified.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Teaching and Student Success:

    • Instruct students using approved course outcome guides and accurate syllabi.
    • Prepare instructional materials as needed.
    • Meet all assigned classes.
    • Apply the colleges values for teaching and learning.
    • Facilitate learning that applies to students' academic and career goals.
    • Meet the curricular needs of students at various learning levels.
    • Encourage mutual responsibility for a supportive learning environment.
    • Provide effective teaching strategies in an environment that encourages student and instructor interaction.
    • Actively engage students in the learning process.
    • Encourage creative and critical thinking.
    • Evaluate and grade student progress and systematically assess the program using meaningful indicators to assure currency, improve teaching and learning strategies, and achieve stated student learning outcomes for all students, including underrepresented students and first‑generation college students.
    • Maintain accurate records of student enrollment, attendance, and scholastic progress.
    • Assess the achievement of student learning outcomes at the course, program, and institutional level.
