East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking part-time (20 hours per week) or per-diem School Age Childcare Educators for our before (6:15 – 8:30 am) and after (2:30 – 6:00 pm) school licensed childcare program at the Pell Elementary School in Newport, RI, operated by the Newport Family & Child Opportunity Zone (NFCOZ) Program. Our Champion Childcare program is a 5 Star rated program by the Bright Stars quality rating system.
It is a play-based program that provides high-quality expanded learning opportunities and supports student growth and development. NFCOZ provides programs and services to Newport children and their families in school and community settings, in partnership with Newport Public Schools, parents, and the community.
Make a difference in the lives of children:
- Create and implement a broad array of high-quality activities for their assigned classroom at Pell Elementary School that comply with the Bright Stars Quality Framework and support connections to school.
- Develop and implement a nurturing environment for the children that supports social and emotional growth and helps students to develop 21st Century learning skills (communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity) and promote school success.
- Supervise children and ensure safety while attending the program.
- Communicate with families
- Assist to supervise and direct Childcare Education Assistants.
- Support students who are identified as needing additional resources and interventions in coordination with School Age Education Assistants, school day classroom teachers and specialists
- Assist to organize and maintain program materials and resources.
- Participate in all required professional development and program meetings.
- Comply with licensing and program regulations and requirements.
As required by the RI Department of Human Services Childcare Regulations and Bright Stars Quality Framework for a 5 Star Program:
- A minimum of an Associate’s Degree or 60 college credits (Bachelor’s Degree preferred) in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or Human Services, or a related field and at least two (2) years of supervised experience working in a licensed/approved early childhood or school age childcare program.
- Candidates with the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Experience working with children with supportive needs
- Expertise in positive behavior management strategies
