Lead Pharmacy Technician (Lead Pharmacy Tech)
Under supervision of Pharmacy Supervisor or Pharmacist‑in‑charge, this role coordinates the activities and functions of pharmacy technicians, students, and support personnel in the assigned areas of the department. Duties include orientation, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and ensuring compliance with established policies and standards of practice.
Responsibilities- Orient, train, schedule, and provide functional guidance to subordinate pharmacy technicians, students, and support staff.
- Continuously review and analyze operations, recommending and implementing operational changes and new technologies to improve efficiency and service levels.
- Participate in recruitment, retention, performance enhancement, and competency assessment of staff.
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and labor contracts.
- Provide actionable feedback to promote teamwork and job satisfaction.
- Develop tools and standards to improve competency levels, including orientation, in‑service training, and competency assessments.
- Maintain effective communication with staff, management, and customers regarding operational changes and quality improvement activities.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement activities and total quality management initiatives.
- Lead or participate in committees, task forces, and performance improvement teams.
- Maintain pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, and related hardware/software.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment.
- Oversee safety, environmental, and infection control education and training programs.
- Coordinate quality assessment and improvement activities of the Pharmacy.
- Execute additional duties as assigned.
- High school graduate or equivalent with one to two years of college or comparable work experience in a health‑care related field.
- Successful completion of the Rhode Island Hospital or The Miriam Hospital Pharmacy Technician Training Program within 120 days of hire.
- Certified by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and maintain current licensure as a pharmacy technician in Rhode Island.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of pharmacy information systems, automated dispensing technology, and personal computers.
- Two to three years of progressively responsible work experience as a pharmacy technician or technician specialist, preferably at Rhode Island Hospital or The Miriam Hospital.
- Consideration may be given to candidates lacking pharmacy technician experience if they possess sufficient educational or experiential background in business, financial management, information systems, or a related field.

Extended periods standing and walking; requires visual and manual dexterity to operate a computer.

CompensationPay Range: $21.61 – $35.66 per hour.

Work ScheduleWork Type:
Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. or 7 m.n. – 4 p.m., every 4th weekend.
