Sr Ultrasound Technologist

Assigns, coordinates, and monitors the daily activities in assigned Ultrasound Imaging section to ensure standards of patient care are met. Performs all duties of a sonographer, serving as a clinical resource to all sonogrpaher assigned to this area. Provides Sonography services to patients of all ages, including: infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.

• Assists with orientation and training of new staff members.
• Performs ultrasound services to patients of all ages.
• Practices aseptic techniques and infection control procedures. Conducts visual checks of equipment prior to each use to ensure safe condition.
• Introduces self to patient, confirms patient’s name, date of birth and exam to be done. Prior to exam, on in-house patients check order in POM; private patient check for request form.
• Explains procedure to the patient:
  
  - Explains exam to adult
  - Explains exam to child with adult present
• Performs routine abdominal, gallbladder, renal, aorta, and spleen exams.

• Provides technical assistance to surgeons/radiologists for:
  
  - Vacuum assisted breast biopsies
  - Liver biopsies
  - Paracentesis/Thoracentesis
  - Cyst aspirations- FNA Thyroid/Breast Biopsy
• Performs routine pelvic ultrasounds on:
  
  - Adults
  - Adolescents
  - Children
• Performs obstetrical studies on adults and adolescents, to include:
  
  - Single gestation
  - Multiple gestation
  - Transvaginal
  - Translabial
• Assists obstetrician with amniocentesis for single and/or multiple gestation using Indigo Carmen Dye.
• Performs small part studies on:
  
  - Breast
  - Thyroid
  - Testicle
• Operates ultrasound equipment with Doppler and Vascular Capabilities:
  
  - Ultrasound Portable Machine- PVR Machine
• Performs the following vascular studies:
  
  - Venous studies
  - Vein mappings and graft surveillance
  - Doppler and color Doppler venousrterial studies
  - Carotid and subclavian arterial studies
  - Doppler upper and lower extremities
  - Pressure volume studies
• Performs Foley catheterization using sterile technique on:
  
  - Adult
  - Child
  - Geriatric patient
• Provides radiologists with preliminary interpretation and reviews each case with radiologists.
• Sets up room and equipment appropriately.
• Monitors patient’s condition during examinations.
