About the Role:

Our client is seeking an enthusiastic Archaeology and Heritage Consultant to support a wide range of nationwide projects, from flood risk and climate resilience schemes to renewable energy developments, Scheduled Monument condition surveys, and historic landscape assessments, and Listed Building Consents.

This role combines fieldwork, research, assessment, the delivery of collaborative projects. You’ll work across the full historic environment spectrum—archaeology, historic buildings, and landscapes—developing skills, contributing to project design, and helping shape resilient future landscapes.

No two days are the same, and the role offers the chance to build experience quickly, supported by a friendly, multidisciplinary team.

About the Client:

Our client is an award-winning, employee-owned environmental and engineering consultancy operating across the UK and internationally. Their work focuses on innovation, sustainability and resilience, delivering high-quality services across a range of environmental disciplines.

They are committed to long-term staff development, lifelong learning, flexible working, and investing in employee wellbeing. As a staff-owned organisation, profits are reinvested and shared, fostering collaboration and long-term thinking.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supporting the Archaeology and Heritage team across a variety of nationwide projects.
  • Undertaking baseline research, including site and archive visits.
  • Managing data, including GIS and preparation of figures.
  • Contributing to desk‑based assessments, heritage statements, written schemes, environmental statement chapters, SEA, setting assessments, and formal advice.
  • Inputting into project and development design to reduce heritage impacts and identify enhancements.
  • Preparing and submitting Scheduled Monument Consent and Listed Building Consent applications.
  • Engaging with stakeholders and statutory consultees.
  • Supporting business development, including tenders and fee proposals.
  • Assisting with project management, quality assurance, and health and safety processes.
What Our Client is Looking For:

A committed, enthusiastic individual with excellent communication and teamwork skills. The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines, work independently, and engage confidently with varied audiences is essential.

They seek someone with:

  • A degree in archaeology, heritage management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Membership of CIfA and/or IHBC (or willingness to obtain).
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • Strong understanding of British archaeology, historic buildings, and historic landscapes.
  • Knowledge of UK heritage legislation.
  • Clear report‑writing skills and the confidence to present information and recommendations.
Desirable:
  • Knowledge of geoarchaeology, palaeoenvironmental archaeology, marine/inter‑tidal heritage, or built heritage recording.
  • Experience with setting assessments, monument condition surveys, GIS (ideally QGIS) and CAD.
What Our Client Offers:
  • Hybrid working and flexible working arrangements.
  • Competitive salary and enhanced financial benefits.
  • Professional development budget and support for qualifications including chartership.
  • Wellbeing initiatives and health support schemes.
  • Cycle to Work and Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice schemes.
  • Inclusive, supportive, and employee-owned culture with strong community and sustainability commits.
Eligibility:
  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Roles may be considered for part-time or flexible working.
  • Applications encouraged from candidates returning to work or changing industry.
Opportunity for Growth:

This role provides strong career development potential in both planning and delivery, with opportunities to work across diverse historic environment specialisms. You’ll gain exposure to national‑scale projects, contribute to design solutions, and develop your professional voice within a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity in our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
