This position is located at Naval Station Newport, Newport, RI, within the Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The purpose of this position is to assist higher graded mechanics in maintaining and repairing all bowling facility electrical, mechanical and computerized equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Adjust, overhaul, install and repair bowling facility electrical and mechanical equipment, including automatic pinsetters, ball returns, foul units, speed cradle stops, telescore units, ball and pin cleaners, lane maintenance machines and hole borers.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning equipment using manuals for diagrams and specifications; disassemble and replace or repair electrical and mechanical parts with soldering irons, welding equipment, pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches and other hand tools.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, ball returns, pinsetters and other related equipment; measure and regulate pinsetters using hand tools and gauges; run pinsetters through complete cycles and inspect for accuracy.
  • Condition, maintain and repair bowling pins and lanes, including repairing cracks, chips and splinters; sand and recoat surfaces as needed.
  • Comply with fire, safety, sanitation and security procedures and regulations; keep up-to-date on repair procedures, bowling center policies and department directives.
  • Assist in maintaining the bowling facility, including mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs; clean and paint walls and ceilings; replace air filters; assist with related maintenance not performed by PWD; perform building maintenance and cleaning tasks as assigned.
  • Perform any other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Must pass all applicable records and background check.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL
    -compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA installations.
Qualifications

Resumes must include information that demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs.

A qualified candidate must possess formal training in bowling equipment maintenance and repair, or may be substituted by two years’ practical experience working on Brunswick or AMF bowling machines. Must possess documented ability to perform tasks involving general maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, painting and plumbing.

Salary is dependent on experience and/or education.
