Working alongside the Regional Security, Health and Safety (SHS) Manager, this role entails managing a broad scope of EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) responsibilities, including collaboration with other EHS Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), local SHS coordinators and other essential support functions.

This position requires innovative thinking and a comprehensive remit to assess, develop, and implement EHS standards for employees in the United Kingdom and Ireland, along with strong process improvement skills.

This role requires one office day per week in Newry or Belfast. Belfast-based employees must attend Newry twice a month. Occasional travel to the UK and Dublin office sites may also be required.

Responsibilities
  • Understand EHS requirements and standards related to occupational health and safety, such as laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with other EHS SMEs to enhance EHS standards and develop long‑term goals and metrics to drive continuous improvement. Be a key contributor to team strategy.
  • Coordinate and manage EHS projects aimed at increasing awareness and ensuring compliance (e.g., occupational risk assessments, audits, EHS campaigns).
  • Partner with local SHS coordinators and internal stakeholders to ensure policies and programs are effectively communicated, implemented, and executed among employees and contractors.
  • Deliver training and promote health and safety awareness at both country and site levels, including H&S training, ergonomics, first aid, fire prevention, etc.
  • Manage injury/illness prevention, investigate occupational incidents, prepare post‑accident documentation, and identify root causes and trends.
  • Report and monitor performance metrics.
  • Participate in work inspections, audits, and EHS Committee meetings.
  • Participate in and conduct risk assessments for working conditions, pregnant workers and new mothers, and DSE (Display Screen Equipment).
  • Prepare emergency response plans and coordinate on‑site emergency response teams.
  • Cooperate with other functions, including Human Resources, IT, Administration, Facilities, and other stakeholders, to enhance working conditions.
  • Update existing policies and procedures to ensure that the EHS strategy is fully delivered and meets all relevant requirements.
  • Work to develop reliable and consistent mechanisms to support employees, such as onboarding programs, health and safety campaigns, and regular communications.
Requirements
  • Must possess the necessary qualifications to work as an EHS professional in the UK/Ireland.
  • 3+ years of experience in health and safety management, coordinating dispersed teams.
  • Experience in environmental management is beneficial but not required.
  • Demonstrable in‑depth understanding of essential and relevant EHS legislation and standards.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement department goals and strategies.
  • Strong analytical skills with a demonstrated problem‑solving mindset.
  • Ability to manage multiple sites remotely.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to respond accurately and effectively in stressful situations.
