Position: IT Placement Student (VA341)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated IT Placement Student to join our Digital Transformation Team for a 12-month placement. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands‑on experience in IT infrastructure projects, end‑user support, and exposure to the latest cloud technologies. You will work closely with internal & external IT resources to provide Level 1 IT support to our global teams and contribute to various projects across the Group.

This position is an IT infrastructure role and does not involve programming or coding. Please note this is Rathbane Group role and will involve weekly travel to other group sites i.e. Antrim, Toome, Monaghan and the possibility of some international travel.

Key Responsibilities IT Equipment Management
  • Assist in the preparation, installation, and deployment of IT hardware and peripherals.
  • Maintain and keep an updated inventory of all IT supplies and equipment.
  • Support inventory tracking and documentation of IT assets.
Software Setup and Configuration
  • Assist with the setup, installation, and configuration of software.
  • Ensure all users have the required access rights, tools, and configurations.
End‑User Support
  • Provide Level 1 support for IT issues.
  • Escalate more complex issues when necessary.
Infrastructure Support
  • Support ongoing IT infrastructure projects
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining mobile / portable connectivity for users in global locations.
Cyber Security
  • Participate in cyber security initiatives
  • Gain exposure to security technologies and assist in monitoring for vulnerabilities
  • Support the implementation of security tools, updates, and patches
Daily Maintenance Checks
  • Assist with daily ICT checks, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Report and address any issues identified during routine checks.
Collaboration with Third Parties
  • Work with external vendors and service providers to ensure smooth delivery of IT services.
  • Support the implementation and troubleshooting of third‑party tools and applications.
Documentation and Reporting
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for IT processes, user guides, and training materials.
  • Provide regular updates to the IT Manager on tasks and project progress.
The Ideal Person Will Have
  • Currently studying for a degree in IT, Computer Science, Cyber Security, or a related field with a strong interest in IT infrastructure.
  • Passion for technology and an eagerness to learn.
  • Basic knowledge of IT hardware, software, and networking.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Awareness of corporate IT systems or tools (e.g., Microsoft 365, Active Directory, etc.).
  • Understanding of IT frameworks (e.g., ITIL, Cyber Essentials, ISO, ).
  • Prior experience in a customer‑facing or technical support role.
